GOOFIRM - Fostering a dialogue within the community regarding GBV
On Day 2 of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, we conducted a radio outreach program at Ocean City Radio Limbe aimed at raising awareness and sensitizing a broad audience about the issues surrounding gender-based violence (GBV). This initiative is crucial for reaching communities that may not have access to other forms of media or information.
Fostering a dialogue within the community regarding #GBV, its impact, and the collective responsibility to address it. and Invited listeners to call in with questions, share experiences, or discuss ways to support survivors.
The program featured local activists, healthcare professionals, and legal experts who provided insights into the complexities of GBV and discussed preventive measures. Listeners were encouraged to participate by calling in to share their thoughts and ask questions. This engagement facilitated a more personal connection with the audience and helped address common misconceptions.
The hosts provided practical tips on how to recognize signs of GBV, how to support someone who may be experiencing violence, and the steps to take if someone needs help.
The radio program was broadcasted in multiple languages to ensure accessibility for diverse community members and feedback from listeners indicated a heightened awareness of GBV issues and an increased willingness to discuss and address these topics within their own communities.
